2009 Salem Teachers Workshop for Architecture, Construction and Engineering - Cancelled

OBC has partnered with the the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and Salem-Keizer Public Schools to offer a Teachers Workshop in Salem this summer as part of the Education Leadership Institute. The workshop will focus on how architecture, construction and engineering can be taught in math, science, and communications classrooms. Apprenticeship training instructors, engineers, and contractors will facilitate the workshop and sessions will include classroom and field-based learning. Partners include Green Girl Land Development Solutions, Portland Office of Sustainable Development, Portland General Electric, Willamette Carpenters Training Center, NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center, Aadland Evans Constructors, and Western Paving and Construction Company.
Each day will also include an afternoon of lesson planning facilitated by Academy for Architecture, Construction and Engineering (ACE) staff to process the knowledge gained through the industry-led sessions and use it to create applied curriculum specific to each participant's classroom needs.
The workshop is open to middle and high school teachers from all disciplines from the Salem area. Class size will be limited to 25 teachers.
Two credits through Portland State University, Continuing Education/Graduate School of Education may be available to participating teachers for $55 per credit. The workshop will be offered at no cost to teachers.
