2008 Clackamas County Environmental Youth Corps Construction Crew Program

The Clackamas County Environmental Youth Corps (CCEYC) program is funded by Clackamas County and formed through partnerships in order to teach Clackamas County youth ages 16-21 responsible forest ethics by using sustainable building practices. Youth will gain hands-on experience working on a “green” construction project while learning how building impacts our forests and wetlands.

The program is open to male and female high school students who:

  • have completed basic math courses and have a proven interest in construction,
  • are a resident or ward of Clackamas County,
  • can legally work in the US and show appropriate ID on the first day,
  • have a personal or professional goal, and
  • are between the ages of 16-21 years old.

We are looking for students who are physically fit, like the outdoors, have a strong work ethic, and are willing and eager to learn.

Students will work in a team of ten with two supervisors to complete construction projects for the public lands agencies. The program combines real-life building with hands-on educational field days so students will learn about environmental science, math, construction, life skills, and construction-related career opportunities.

Participants will earn a stipend of $25.00 a day for all learning and working time as well as have the option to earn up to seven college credits for their successful completion of the program. The crew leaders will facilitate lessons in job training and work readiness. These trainings will culminate in earning up to seven credits through Clackamas Community College.

Construction Crew members will work Monday – Thursday from June 30 through August 14, 2008. Students will work 30 hours per week for seven weeks. Work hours will be from 8:00am to 3:30pm with a half hour lunch (7.5 hours total). Work start and end times may vary during extremely hot weeks or when travel for a field trip requires a minor shift in working hours. Students are responsible for meeting at a designated place each day. Transportation to the work site from a central meeting location will be provided by CCEYC.
